Assistant Professor/Lecturer in Plant Sciences

University College Dublin is seeking to appoint a Assistant Professor/Lecturer in Plant Sciences, to the School of Biology & Environmental Science. We are looking for a candidate with research interests in the broad area of plant or crop physiology who will contribute to the ‘Plant Science’ research theme of the School. All areas of plant science are welcome, but we would have particular interest in candidates undertaking research in aspects of photosynthesis. The applicant’s research should ideally address a key theme of the School, namely ‘how to predict and mitigate the impact of climate/environmental change on agriculture, forestry and the natural environment'.


The candidate is expected to lead an original and innovative scientific research programme as well as contribute to the teaching of plant physiology, plant ecology or climate change biology. The candidate should complement and engage with current academic staff and research programmes within the School and wider UCD community. The University has several research platforms that the candidate will be able to avail of, including the PEAC controlled environmental facility, a molecular research facility, the Rosemount environmental research station with glasshouses space, a biological imaging suite, a metabolomic analysis suite, a phenotyping platform, and the Dooary Forest research platform.


Candidates should have a PhD in an appropriate discipline and will be expected to provide teaching of various aspects of biology primarily in the Environmental Biology and Plant Biology undergraduate degree programmes. The candidate will also contribute to graduate programmes delivered by the School. Applications should also include a 5-year relevant research plan detailing possible funding opportunities, and a teaching portfolio.


Salary Scale: €50,807 - €76,936 per annum

Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines.
