PhD Student Position - “Regulation of photosynthesis”

MPI Potsdam-Golm, Germany

The Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology in Potsdam invites applications for a PhD Student Position (code 02/17) in the recently established group “Regulation of photosynthesis” headed by Ute Armbruster. The focus of the group lies on understanding how photosynthesis is regulated in dynamic light environments. The PhD project aims at identifying and characterizing the regulatory mechanisms involved on molecular level.

We expect:

  • Enthusiasm for basic research on plants
  • Recent and outstanding Master of Science degree
  • Profound experience in molecular biology
  • Excellent command of English (oral and written)
  • Expertise in MS office programs
  • Bioinformatics skills are advantageous (e.g. “R”)

Our project includes:

  • Mapping of causal mutations by NGS sequencing
  • Analyzing photosynthetic parameters by chlorophyll fluorescence and absorption spectroscopy
  • Establishing electrophysiological measurements for thylakoid ion flux
  • Presenting work in progress seminars and at conferences
