Post-doc in Plant Biology

Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU)

Department of Plant Biology in Uppsala

Resolving the role of Kinesin-separase complex (KISC) in cells

The postdoctoral position will be based at the Department of Plant Biology, Uppsala BioCentrum, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) and the Linnean Center for Plant Biology. The department undertakes fundamental research on model organisms, agricultural crops, forest trees and bioenergy crops. We offer a creative and stimulating international environment, interacting with four other departments that make up the cluster ”Uppsala BioCentrum” at SLU. For more information, please visit our homepage For topics studied in our department and groups: Link; our group: Link.

We are focused on how RNA and protein degradation pathways function during development and stress responses. In this project, the successful applicant will build on our previously published works (Moschou et al., 2013, Plant Cell; Moschou et al., 2016, Dev Cell). We identified the complex KISC (Kinesin-Separase Complex) as an important component regulating cell polarity and development (see also the commentary in Developmental Cell, Vol. 37, Issue 4, p295–296 and Press Release: Link). The successful candidate will identify how KISC functions at the molecular level by using NGS, proteomics, biochemistry and CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing.

All highly motivated applicants are welcomed to apply. Essential requirements are:

·         A PhD in biology.

·         Proven skills in both oral and written scientific English.

In addition, desirable skills include:

·         Experience in NGS, proteomics and bioinformatics.

·         Ability to perform experiments using life cell imaging.

Documents required for the application

CV with publication list and PhD diploma. In addition, a short description (max. 1 page) of previous research and other activities relevant to the project, and motivation for applying for this fellowship. Please also include contact details of at least two referees.

Place of work: Department of Plant Biology, Uppsala BioCentrum, Sweden

Form of employment: The position is initially limited to one year with potential extension.

Salary: In the form of stipend (23,000 SEK/month); supported by the Carl Tryggers Foundation (CTS; Link).

Starting date: A starting date will be agreed upon with the successful candidate.

Application: We welcome your application with CTS postdoctoral 001 in the subject line.
