Postdoc position - Remodeling of mRNA content and translational control in stress response

Postdoc position - Remodeling of mRNA content and translational control in stress response

University of Basel, Switzerland

Our lab is interested in membrane dynamics and intracellular protein and mRNA trafficking and metabolism. One of the current research focus is on the fate mRNA upon cellular stresses. When a cell encounters stress, translation is attenuated and mRNA is stored and eventually degraded in processing bodies (PBs). We found that dependent on the stress condition, a subset of mRNA is transported to PBs, while another set is more heavily translated. At the same time, the cell needs to respond by translating a subset of mRNAs that will be beneficial in counteracting the stress.
We have an opening for a creative and highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to work on the translational control of protein expression under different stress conditions in yeast. Experience in live cell imaging, molecular biology, biochemistry and/or RNA biology (RNAseq/Riboseq) is advantageous. Postdoc applicants should have a proven record as successful researcher demonstrated by high impact publications. The successful applicant will join an enthusiastic, creative and collaborative group using interdisciplinary approaches.
