Pre-doctoral Internship on the Effector Biology of Phakopsora pachyrhizi, the Causal Agent of Asian Soybean Rust

A pre-doctoral internship is available in the 2Blades group of Peter van Esse at the Sainsbury Laboratory. The current project is designed to investigate the biological role of soybean rust effectors and to identify the putative host targets of these effectors. The intern will deploy state-of-the-art methods to functionally characterize P. pachyrhizi effectors. The intern will get professional training on wide variety of techniques and skills including transient expression systems, proteomics, cell biology, and molecular plant pathology. Candidates are expected to have BSc or MSc degree. A strong interest in plant immunity and fungal biology is required. This internship offers invaluable work experience in a world leading laboratory in advance of starting a PhD program. We offer a salary within the technical staff Grade scale grade 3 £16,654 PA. The internship will be up to a 12 months appointment and will be available in the first instance from 15th of March 2018.
