Research Assistant - Molecular / Epigeneticist

The Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences (IBERS) is a world class research, enterprise and education centre at Aberystwyth University.  We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and motivated research assistant with knowledge of grassland and molecular biology to join a BBSRC-funded Core Strategic Programme on ‘Grassland and crops for challenging environments’.  Activities will centre on a related research platform created across sites at Pwllpeiran and Trawscoed.  Work will include characterization of plant epigenetic responses of plants in grazed swards to abiotic and biotic challenges experienced throughout the growing season. The post holder will also be responsible for the generation of DNA metabarcoding data to characterise flux in species composition of swards in response to environmental  and management changes.

The successful candidate will possess sufficient knowledge of modern epigenetic and molecular genetic techniques and of their analysis. The post-holder will be expected to take responsibility for 1) protocol implementation, 2) sample and data collection, and 3) specialist sample analysis.  The post holder will also be required to liaise with project partners as required, and will be responsible for managing complex data files.
