Characterization of genomic and phenotypic diversity in Potato Genetic Resources
The research group Potato Quantitative Genetics exploit the genetic resources stored in the IPK gene bank for breeding purpose to increase genetic gain in potato. We aim to develop quantitative genetic methods to identify and characterize positive alleles and allele combinations in genetic resources of potato as well as accumulate them in the breeding process. Therefore, we are conducting a project to characterize the genotypic and phenotypic diversity of the potato genetic resources (PGR) IPK gene bank.
Your tasks:
- Assess the intra- and interspecific genetic diversity of PGR based on molecular genetic data
- Assess the diversity of PGR based on hyperspectral imaging
- Use historical disease resistance data to perform GWAS
- Report your work in scientific journals and oral presentations
We offer you:
- a varied, challenging and interesting job in an international and multi-disciplinary institute with expertise on biostatistics, quantitative genetics, plant genomics, molecular genetics, plant breeding, bioinformatics and plant physiology working on current topics of breeding methodology and crop genetics.
- a collegial working atmosphere.
- collaboration with scientists from the Institute for Breeding Research on Agricultural Crops of the JKI.
- an exciting 3-year PhD position, starting on 01.04.2025.
- a gross salary up to 65% E13 TV-L.
- The position is located in Groß Lüsewitz which can be reached by train within 17 minutes from Rostock central station.
