  • Conducting wheat and soybean pathology research: responsibility for genetic control and prebreeding for disease resistance; monitoring the epidemiology, evolution and dynamics of diseases and pathogens; anticipating and adapting testing strategies in breeding
  • Developing innovative strategies for digital phenotyping of diseases, discovering resistance genes and implementing their use in integrated genetic control for sustainable resistance
  • Integrating approaches into the next-generation breeding strategy: digital phenotyping, gene discovery, GWAS and GS, introgression and pyramiding of resistance genes into elite breeding lines
  • Setting up scientific projects and partnerships at national and international level and acquisition of third-party funds
  • Proactive support for implementing the relocation of the ‘Wheat Improvement and Breeding’ Team from Nyon to Zurich-Reckenholz (planed for 2025 onwards).


  • University degree with a PhD and established scientific background in the group’s field of research: phytopathology, genetics and plant breeding, plant biotechnology, genomic selection (GS).
  • Hands-on experience in plant pathology and plant breeding.
  • National and international network in the research field.
  • Good leadership and communication skills.
  • Good knowledge of two official Swiss languages. Very good written and spoken English
