COLLABORATION WITH EU PROJECTS
InnCoCells
InnCoCells is a Horizon 2020 project launched in 2021 aiming to develop innovative plant-based production processes for the commercial exploitation of scientifically validated cosmetic ingredients using profitable and sustainable cell cultures, aeroponic cultivation, and greenhouse/field cultivation. InnCoCells is a consortium of 17 partners representing European academic and industrial leaders.
CHIC
CHIC project: Chicory as a multipurpose crop for dietary fibre and medicinal terpenes is a research and innovation project supported through the EU Horizon 2020 funding programme.
The €7.3 million project supports the establishment of a responsible innovation pathway for the development and application of New Plant Breeding Techniques (NPBTs) for chicory as a multipurpose crop for the production of high-value consumer products, in line with societal needs and concerns. The consortium includes SMEs, an industrial partner, non-profit organizations and research institutes from 11 European countries and one from New Zealand.
TOMRES
The project “A novel and integrated approach to increase multiple and combined stress tolerance in plants using tomato as a model”, in short TOMRES, is co-funded by the Horizon 2020 Programme of the European Union.
The overall goal of TOMRES is to enhance resilience to combined water and nutrient stress in tomato and to maximize water (WUE) and nutrient use efficiency (NUE) by designing and testing in the field (open and protected) novel combinations of genotypes and management practices reducing the environmental impact of agricultural activities.
To this aim, novel below-ground traits will be identified and rootstocks and scions displaying increased WUE and NUE, while retaining fruit quality and yield, will be selected.
ERA-CAPS
ERA-CAPS is the European Research Area Network for Coordinating Action in Plant Sciences. Building on the ERA-CAPS ERA-NET that was supported by the European Commission’s 7th Framework Programme until mid 2015, ERA-CAPS has now become a self-sustained network. EPSO is official observer in this ERA-NET.
SusCrop ERA-NET
SusCrop is an ERA-Net Cofund Action under H2020, which aims to strengthen the European Research Area (ERA) in the field of Sustainable Crop Production through enhanced cooperation and coordination of different national and regional research programmes. In this regard, SusCrop brings together owners and managers of national and regional R&D&I programmes of EU Member States, EU-associated States and Third countries with significant experience in research funding and coordination. EPSO is official observer in this ERA-NET.
BECOTEPS
Nine European Technology Platforms (ETPs) active in the Knowledge-Based Bio-Economy (KBBE) sector joined forces in this support action funded by the European Commission’s Seventh Framework Programme. The overall objective of the project was to contribute to the creation of a strong KBBE in Europe.
Main result – White paper: The European Bioeconomy in 2030 – Delivering sustainable growth by addressing the Grand Societal Challenges, March 2011
It was drafted based on the recommendations from the workshops for coherent European policies in the KBBE area and used in discussions with policy makers, funding organisations and decision makers at national, multinational and EU level, and at the KBBE Conference held by the Commission in 2010. The final BECOTEPS White Paper was disseminated to the ETPs, national TPs, national research funding organisations (ERA-NET, KBBE-Net), European Commission, European Parliament and the press.
Star-COLIBRI
The Star-COLIBRI was a Coordination and Support Action funded by the European Commission’s 7th Framework Programme for 2 years starting on November 1st 2009. The project involved five European Technology Platforms and five major European Research organisations.
Star-COLIBRI aimed at overcoming fragmentation and promoting cross-fertilization in the area of biorefineries research. The project supported innovations by speeding up and facilitating industrial exploitation of research results in the biorefinery field, as well as promoted coordination in the field of future R&D funding and facilitate the creation of Public-Private Partnerships.
Roles in the project
Plant ETP/EPSO mainly contributed to the information handling and collection of biomass availability in Europe and in other parts of the world, to the collection of information on biorefinery research funding and projects. They also participated to the identification of potential Star-projects via its National Support Groups and to the development of a common European 2030 Vision and of a Strategic Research Roadmap for Biorefineries 2020. They supported the Star-Cluster coordination and ensured the dissemination of the project results.
